Who it helps
Founders and leadership teams that need ongoing technology direction and supplier accountability, alongside their existing IT staff or providers.
What you receive
A technology baseline, prioritized roadmap, decision and risk register, supplier responsibility map and leadership reporting.
How it works
Start with a review of your priorities and systems, then agree responsibilities, availability and a regular rhythm for decisions and delivery reviews.

When you need support

Growth creates decisions that a helpdesk ticket cannot resolve: which platform deserves investment, who owns an integration, whether a supplier proposal is proportionate, and what risk the business can accept. When these questions remain between departments, leaders absorb the coordination work and projects compete without a shared direction.

Fractional CTO advisory provides an agreed level of technology leadership for organizations that need this ownership without immediately creating a full-time executive role. It suits founders, leadership teams, professional services firms, nonprofits and growing digital businesses. An existing IT manager or managed service provider can remain an essential delivery partner.

Signs of a leadership gap

The clearest signal is a recurring decision gap. A vendor may be performing its contract well while nobody owns how that contract supports the wider business.

  • Technology spending is rising, but leaders cannot connect it to a ranked set of outcomes.
  • Projects cross several suppliers and repeatedly stall at handoffs or unresolved architecture decisions.
  • The founder approves technical choices without a dependable options assessment.
  • Risk, continuity and adoption have owners in principle, but no regular review or agreed evidence.

What you receive

Direction

  • A technology baseline covering systems, operating constraints, spending and ownership.
  • A prioritized roadmap with dependencies, accountable owners and review points.

Accountability

  • A decision and risk register that records choices, assumptions and escalation needs.
  • A supplier responsibility map and criteria for evaluating proposals and performance.

Delivery oversight

  • Leadership reporting, architecture and investment reviews, and scoped implementation oversight.
  • Adoption and benefits reviews that compare intended value with available evidence.

How we work

The work follows three stages, shaped around your priorities. Availability, meeting frequency, reporting and implementation responsibilities are agreed in the proposal.

  1. Understand the business

InterPro: Review your plans, systems and supplier arrangements with your leadership team. Establish a technology baseline and identify decisions that need attention.

Your team: Explain your priorities and constraints, provide agreed information and access, and confirm that the findings reflect your business.

  2. Agree priorities and responsibilities

InterPro: Recommend a roadmap, assess options and clarify who recommends, approves, delivers and accepts the work.

Your team: Approve priorities, investment decisions and responsibilities, and nominate an internal lead to coordinate the engagement.

  3. Lead ongoing reviews

InterPro: Review supplier proposals, delivery progress and risks. Coordinate dependencies, document decisions and escalate issues that need leadership attention.

Your team: Make the decisions reserved for your leadership team, approve changes to scope or spending, and confirm acceptance of agreed work.

Engagement options

Begin with a focused assessment when the immediate need is to understand the situation. Choose a roadmap project when priorities and investment choices are the main gap. Ongoing fractional leadership supports recurring decisions and delivery coordination; a defined transition engagement can help prepare for a permanent technology leader.

Scope identifies availability, decision rights, supplier access, reporting and which implementation activities are included. Service desk operation, continuous monitoring and emergency response require their own explicit arrangements.

Measuring progress

Useful measures include the age of unresolved decisions, roadmap commitments completed, spending against agreed priorities, supplier obligations met, risks with named owners, and adoption of delivered capabilities. Baselines and targets are agreed with the client. Faster decision-making is useful only when the decision is supported and the organization can carry it through.

Experience: sustained technology advice

Across a decade, we supported the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission with website management, digital voter education, an SMS messaging system, and recurring advice on technology and operational decisions.

The engagement connected ongoing delivery with changing organizational needs. It provides relevant experience in continuity and technology advice; it was not a formal fractional CTO appointment. The engagement is complete, and the former website is now offline.

Common questions

How much time and availability can we expect?

Availability, meeting frequency, reporting and implementation responsibilities are agreed in the proposal around the decisions and work you need. Service desk operation, continuous monitoring and emergency response require their own explicit arrangements.

How long does an engagement last?

The engagement can focus on an assessment, a roadmap, ongoing leadership or a defined transition to a permanent technology leader. We agree timing and review points in the proposal to suit the work.

How are fees agreed?

Fees are set out in the proposal alongside the agreed scope, deliverables, responsibilities, availability and timing. The initial conversation helps clarify the support you need so those terms can be agreed before work begins.

Can you work alongside our existing MSP or IT manager?

Yes. A useful starting point is to define leadership, delivery and support responsibilities together. InterPro IT Consultants can coordinate priorities and evaluate proposals while the existing provider continues its agreed operational work.

Do we retain control over investment decisions?

Yes. The engagement clarifies who may recommend, approve and execute decisions. Leadership retains the approval rights agreed in the scope, with documented options and trade-offs to support its choices.

What should we bring to an initial conversation?

Describe the business change you are pursuing, the decisions that are stuck and who currently manages technology. A high-level systems or supplier list helps; credentials and sensitive records are unnecessary for the inquiry.
